Brief characteristics :

  • System for eccentricity measurment and for tuning optical connectors.

Description of device :

  • The device is designed for measurement of eccentricity of a fiber core in regards to the outer diameter of ferrule capillary of optical connector.
    The eccentricity value is displayed on the computer screen, along with it's position to the ideal centre of capillary. This enables the control and tuning of connector into the right position. Furthermore, according to the eccentricity value, the system sorts the connectors into the categories "Standard”, "Reference” and "Master” as per pre-defined limits. It is possible to control even the single ferrules with ID 1.25mm and 2.5mm.

 

Benefits :

  • Measured connectors or ferrules are set manually into the pre-set positions. In each position the scan of image is made through the computer program operated by mouse; it is the image that is created by light coming out of fiber core. From acquired position data of fiber, the program evaluates the eccentricity size in micrometers and displays graphically the direction of deviation from the ferrule centre. Depending on the connector type this deviation is determined as a sector in one fourth or one sixth of circle, which enables the accurate tuning of connector. For selection of ferrules the same principle is used, the only difference is that the fiber which has its end cut accurately under the 90° angle is inserted and firmly fixed into the ferrule.
